Let's start with Coffee vs Tea
Personally I prefer the taste and satisfaction that tea provides. So if I were to buy a drink to make myself at home I would go for tea. However if someone would offer me a free drink of choice(e.g/ Waitrose) I would go for Coffee, since I like to look at Coffee as a more expensive item. Whereas tea I can just make at home, with less effort.
Data:
Cup of Tea Cost
- Mighty Leaf Organic Breakfast – $65.89/kg
- 2.5g of tea per cup
- $0.17 cost per cup
Cup of Coffee Cost
- Sightglass El Salvador, Santa Ana, Siberia Estate – $81.40/kg
- 24g per espresso pull
- $1.92 cost per cup (according to M.Hudin, 2011)
Now, these are both high-end teas and coffees which I believe to be equal in taste and quality level. As you can see, the tea is around 75% the cost per kilo of the coffee, but the difference also depends how much you use to make a cup. At the end of day, it really depends on your preference. Whether you are willing to pay that extra.
